8.      Please tell of any special, fond memories you may have about the school.

One of the special people to me was Dorothy, the custodian. I believe that I first knew her in 1st grade at the little school in Deptford Homes. She helped prepare very good meals for us then, and I always had a special place for her in my heart. She was so nice to children. When I married and had children of my own, four of them went to Eli Whitney before we moved to Richmond Hill. Dorothy was the custodian for them, too. She always asked about Frank, Davis, Eddie, Susan and Helen. I do not think Peggy went to Eli Whitney.

My most special person was Mrs. Pollard, my first grade teacher. I was the first to leave the nest and did not want to go. I fought to stay home every morning and would run home if given the opportunity. She would walk to our home, talk to me and walk me back. She took the time to care about me. She taught me to love school, and I still love learning.

There are so many, but Ill share a few with you:

I had a 4th grade teacher, Ms. Brooks, who I fell in love with, and it was the first time I had experienced being love-sick. I went home and cried for days, and my mom thought it was the nicest thing.

I remember being in love with Brenda Anderson, who liked both Lawrence Strickland and me. She had both of us wait until she decided; unfortunately, it was Lawrence.

I also remember being the captain of Ms. Purviss softball team. It was great because we beat all those BIG GUYS from Ms. Corvettes Special Ed Class. I remember a monster of a guy named George Jenkins.

I also recall singing on the Kitty Cope show, as a member of Mr. Brosts Glee Club. There are so many, but Ill share a few with you:

Lastly, I remember those wonderful Halloween Carnivals at the school each year.
